The 550 Touring series was introduced around 2010 as the combo version of the 550 Spyder head, and designed to bridge the gap between Ashdownâs classic ABM range and a more modern, high-headroom "boutique" sound. This 2x10â combo was part of the "Dual Tube" series, intended to provide a cleaner, more articulate response than the standard ABM series. It used a Dave Green-designed preamp originally found in the high-end Ashdown 427 Small Block, paired with the reliable ABM solid-state power stage. Early units like this one were part of the UK-built "Valve Series," featuring high-quality internal components and a high-voltage tube preamp. Unlike many Ashdown amps known for "grind," the 550 series is famous for its "crystal clear" highs and deep, tight lows, making it popular with players who want the true sound of their bass to shine through.
