Comments:
This Burns Marvin with serial number 9823 is a highly collectible "pre-Baldwin" model manufactured in early 1965 (likely January or February). It represents the pinnacle of Jim Burns’ original company before its sale to the Baldwin Piano and Organ Company in September 1965. The model was designed in 1963 by Jim Burns in close collaboration with Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch of The Shadows to replace their Fender Stratocasters. The bridge plate engraving, "Designed and handcrafted for Hank Marvin by Burns", is a hallmark of the earliest production runs. The Rez-O-Matik pickups were specifically engineered to provide the "nasal" and "mellow" tone heard on classic Shadows recordings. These original British-made Marvins are exceptionally rare, with total production of the 1964–1965 original run estimated at only about 350 instruments.
