Comments:

James L. D'Aquisto was the apprentice of the master luthier John D'Angelico. After D'Angelico's death in 1964, D'Aquisto took over the shop and eventually evolved the classic "New Yorker" design into his own modern aesthetic, characterized by cleaner lines, S-shaped soundholes, and ebony appointments. While the original New Yorkers were hand-built in New York, the DQ-NYE series was produced under license in Japan, primarily by Aria. Following D'Aquisto's death in 1995, Aria continued to produce these high-quality recreations to make his innovative designs more accessible to working jazz guitarists. This 2011 model is famous for its S-shaped soundholes, a signature D'Aquisto innovation intended to modernize the traditional F-hole. It features a "floating" pickup to ensure the solid spruce top can vibrate freely, maintaining the guitar's acoustic resonance even when amplified.
