Comments:

In the early 1980s, Fender sought to establish a credible presence in the high-end archtop market. They partnered with Jimmy D’Aquisto, the protege of John D'Angelico and arguably the most celebrated archtop luthier in history, and launched the “Master Series” in 1984. The “Elite" sat in the middle of the three-model lineup, between the Standard and the Ultra. It featued an arched spruce top, a single neck humbucker, and ebony appointments. It is often described as a modernized, "D’Aquisto-fied" version of the Gibson ES-175, designed to be a high-performance "working man's" jazz box. It features D’Aquisto’s signature aesthetic touches, including the S-shaped soundholes (blended with traditional F-shapes), a sleek ebony cello-style tailpiece, and a stylized headstock based on older D'Angelico designs.
