2011 was the 60th anniversary of the Telecaster, which was officially named in February 1951. Fender did two things to commemorate the anniversary: they released a specific "60th Anniversary Telecaster" model (usually in Blackguard Blonde) and they also added a commemorative 60th Anniversary neck plate to almost all American Standard production models made during that calendar year. At this point, the American Standard was the flagship modern Fender. In 2011, it featured several "modern" upgrades over vintage specs, such as a 6-saddle bridge for better intonation and a thinner finish for better resonance.
