Comments:

The Gibson Century 6 Lap Steel is a vintage, six-string electric lap steel guitar produced by Gibson from 1948 to 1968. The instrument's visual character was originally the work of the firm Barnes & Reinicke, hired by Gibson at the end of WWII to work on new design ideas. The “salmon” or “coral" pink lacquer finish was labeled by Gibson as “Bittersweet”. The 1960s-era Century was produced in very small numbers (only 52 shipped out in 1961), but remains one of Gibson's most unique and visually striking instruments.

This 1961 model has the numbered plastic knobs with metal caps typical of that period. The P-90 single coil pickup with adjustable polepieces is controlled by an unusual one-volume, dual-tone-knob circuit for an added range of sound. The volume knob adjusts the overall output level. The first tone knob acts as a typical treble cut, making the sound warmer as it's turned down. The second tone knob is part of an unusual dual-tone circuit specific to this model, allowing for further variations in the tonal palette, affecting a different frequency range.
