The instrument was purchased by Jimmy Page on November 23rd 1969 during Led Zeppelin’s American tour from Mike Ladd's Guitar City store in Memphis Tennessee. The instrument was one of two instruments purchased by Page. One being his iconic Gibson Red Les Paul and the second being this Gibson Firebird III that Page owned and used until the mid to late '70s until it was passed to fellow Led Zeppelin band member John Bonham after Page lost a drinking game with his drummer. Bonham in turn later gifted the instrument to the son of his business partner as a birthday gift in 1978 and it has been in his custody since.
