The Gibson Les Paul Junior was originally introduced in 1954 as an affordable student-model alternative to the carved-top Les Paul. This Historic Collection reissue specifically recreates the 1957 version, which is the final full year of the original single-cutaway design before the transition to double-cut bodies in 1958. While the standard Junior came in Sunburst, the "TV" model was marketed separately starting in 1956. It featured a "Limed Mahogany" finish, which collectors call TV Yellow. One popular theory suggests the yellow finish was designed to look white on black-and-white television screens without the glare that a true white guitar would cause. Despite being a "budget" model, the Junior became a favorite of professional rock and punk musicians for its raw, high-output P-90 pickup and incredible sustain provided by the slab mahogany body.
