Comments:

The Gibson Firebird was introduced in 1963, a creation of then-Gibson president Ted McCarty and car designer Ray Dietrich. Dietrich's design was inspired by 1950s car tailfins, resulting in a sleek, offset "reverse" body shape where the treble horn is longer than the bass horn. The Firebird was the first Gibson solid-body to use neck-through-body construction, enhancing sustain and durability. The Firebird VII was the top-of-the-line model in the original series (alongside the I, III, and V) and was characterized by its premium features, including a bound ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlays and chrome hardware. The original "reverse" body Firebirds were only produced from 1963 to mid-1965 before being replaced by the "non-reverse" style (which had a more conventional body shape and glued-in neck) due to slow sales and production costs. This 2002 model is part of a modern reissue series that brings back the original, sought-after "reverse" body and headstock design with banjo-style tuners.
