Comments:
The Gibson SG ("Solid Guitar") model was first introduced in 1961 as a lighter, double-cutaway replacement for the declining sales of the original Les Paul model. Les Paul himself disliked the design and thin neck joint, and by 1964, his name was officially removed, and the guitar was renamed the SG Standard. It quickly became a rock icon, known for its distinctive "devil horn" shape, light weight, and excellent upper-fret access. It has been a continuous production model ever since, used by legendary artists such as Angus Young (AC/DC), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Eric Clapton (Cream era), and Derek Trucks. This 2005 model features characteristics associated with the later 60s/modern SGs, including the rounded neck profile, full-face "batwing" pickguard, and 490R/498T Alnico humbuckers, distinguishing it from the earlier '61 reissues with the smaller "angel wing" pickguard and slim-taper neck.
