Comments:
The Gibson SG ("Solid Guitar") model was introduced in 1961 as a replacement for the original Les Paul design, which was experiencing declining sales at the time. It featured a thinner, all-mahogany body with distinctive double-cutaway horns and quickly became a success due to its lightweight design and easy access to the upper frets. Initially branded as the "Les Paul SG", it was officially renamed the Gibson SG Standard in 1964 after Les Paul disassociated himself from the design. The model has been in continuous production since its introduction and is widely regarded as Gibson's best-selling guitar model of all time. The "Natural Burst" finish was a less common option that emerged in the early 2000s, offering a slightly tinted center with a darker rim burst, a unique alternative to the more traditional Heritage Cherry finish.
