Comments:Â
This Gretsch 6124 Single Anniversary was manufactured in 1963 at the Gretsch factory in Brooklyn, New York. This model was part of the "Anniversary" line, which Gretsch launched in 1958 to celebrate the company's 75th year of business. While the two-tone green models are iconic, the 6124 designation specifically refers to the Sunburst version of the Single Anniversary. Gretsch's official name for this sunburst finish at the time was "Shadeâ. The Anniversary models were designed as more affordable versions of the professional-tier 6120 Chet Atkins models. They shared the same 16-inch wide, 2.5-inch deep hollow body construction but featured simpler hardware and no binding on the f-holes. Instead of a traditional tone knob, this 1963 model features a three-position toggle switch, which was repurposed to be a pickup selector when the Ray Butts Ful-Fidelity FilterâTrons were installed. Apart from the replaced pickups / switch and the removed pickguard, the guitar is fully original.
