Comments:
The 6129 Silver Jet was introduced as a "glamour" version of the 6128 Duo Jet. It famously used silver sparkle drum-casing laminate for the top, a design choice inspired by Gretsch's heritage in manufacturing sparkle-finish drums. Despite being marketed as a solidbody, the Silver Jet is a chambered guitar. It consists of a mahogany body with large routed-out internal cavities and a pressed laminate maple top. This construction gives it a resonant, "semi-hollow" acoustic character and keeps the weight low. This 1957 model with serial #26243 sits right in the classic era before Gretsch switched to Filter'Tron humbuckers in 1958. These pre-58 models are highly sought after for their DeArmond Dynasonic single-coil pickups, which are known for their percussive, punchy "twang" popular in rockabilly. 1957 was also the year "Hump Block" inlays became standard, replacing the earlier plain block inlays.
