Introduced in 1955 as a companion to the White Falcon, the Penguin was essentially a "glitzed-up" version of the Duo Jet solid-body. It was never featured in a catalog during its original run, and it is estimated that fewer than 50 original units were produced between 1955 and 1964. Production of the modern Japanese-made G6134 began in 1996. Following the 2003 partnership between Gretsch and Fender, production moved primarily to the Terada factory (JT prefix). Instruments from this era are noted for significant upgrades in historical accuracy, including revamped body shapes and improved pickups. This 2015 model falls into the Professional Collection.
