Following the initial US production in the late 1990s, Hartke moved manufacturing for the Kickback series to China to offer a more competitive price point while maintaining the signature aluminum-cone sound. The cabinet was revolutionary for its time, featuring a unique "Two-Way" design that allows it to sit upright or tilted back at a 45-degree angle to serve as a personal floor monitor. This specific 120W version uses the classic full aluminum-cone driver, known for a "punchy" and bright attack compared to the later hybrid paper/aluminum "HyDrive" versions. It features a unique "Shape" circuit that applies a specialized EQ curve across a sweepable frequency range (100Hz–900Hz), allowing for quick tonal shifts from a mid-scooped "slap" sound to a warm, vintage growl.
