The Ibanez Iceman, the foundational design for this guitar, was first introduced in 1977 as an original shape from Japan, intended to move Ibanez beyond simply copying American designs. The model was adopted and made famous by artists like Paul Stanley of KISS, becoming an icon of Ibanez's classic guitar shapes. The IC420FM is part of the modern "Standard" line, introduced in late 2023, bringing this legendary design back to the core Ibanez catalog in an affordable, yet high-quality format. This specific model features a flamed maple top over an Okoume body (a wood with tonal properties similar to mahogany) in a Cherry Sunburst finish. It includes gold hardware and Ibanez Super 80 "Flying Finger" humbucking pickups, which were original Ibanez pickups from the 1970s known for their bright, clear, and powerful tone. The guitar has a comfortable "set-in" neck joint and features a vintage 24.75" scale length for classic feel and tone.
